    Frequently Asked Questions

Discover the craftsmanship, materials, and care behind Capra Leather.

    1. What type of leather does Capra Leather use?

Capra Leather is dedicated to selecting the highest quality materials. We exclusively use full-grain leather, recognised as the highest grade available, which enhances with age and develops a beautiful patina.

Our commitment begins with meticulous sourcing from trusted tanneries in the Andean region of South America. These facilities undergo rigorous audits by the Leather Working Group (LWG), owning the Silver Rating. This accreditation ensures adherence to the most stringent global environmental standards for responsible leather production.

    2. Are Capra leather products handmade, and where are they ethically produced?

Yes, Capra Leather products are genuinely handmade and crafted under a made-to-order philosophy in Bogotá, where the founders were born. This approach ensures exceptional quality and ethical production, which is especially important for shoppers seeking handmade rather than mass-produced goods.

Handmade Craftsmanship: Every piece, from the initial pattern cutting to the final hand stitching and packaging, is created by a dedicated team of skilled artisans in their in-house design studio. This process is highly detailed and time intensive, ensuring that no two products are exactly identical, you receive a unique, handcrafted piece.

Ethical Sourcing: Capra is committed to environmental care and reducing its ecological footprint by using local products as much as possible. The full grain leather is sourced from trusted local tanneries in the Andean region of South America. These tanneries are subject to rigorous audits and hold a Silver Rating from the Leather Working Group (LWG), guaranteeing that the leather is produced using environmentally sound and sustainable processes.

Production Philosophy: By adhering to a made to order model, Capra eliminates excess inventory and the waste associated with mass production, promoting a more responsible and ethical business practice. This combination of artisan skill and ethical material sourcing ensures you are purchasing a product with soul, built for longevity.

    3. What specific zippers are used to guarantee the long-term durability?

Capra prioritizes long-term durability, especially for components that are used frequently, such as zippers. To ensure your product remains functional for decades, Capra exclusively utilizes three of the highest-grade, most reliable zipper lines available:

    • YKK Metallic Zippers: The global benchmark for quality, known for their robust construction, resistance to snags, and consistently smooth operation.
    • YKK Excella® Zippers: Used on signature and premium models, the Excella line represents the ultimate standard in zipper luxury and durability. These zippers feature fully polished, individual metallic elements that provide an exceptionally smooth glide, a luxurious shine, and superior resistance to corrosion and wear.
    • YKK AquaGuard® Zippers: Employed on models requiring enhanced weather protection, these zippers use a polyurethane-laminated tape to create a highly water-resistant seal, offering superior protection for contents in rainy conditions.
    4. What size laptop fits inside a Capra Leather product?

Capra Leather products are designed to comfortably fit up to a 16-inch laptop. The dedicated laptop compartment is engineered for security and stability:

    • Protection: The compartment is padded and reinforced, offering cushioning against bumps and external pressure, ensuring your device remains protected and stable inside the bag.
    • Secure Fit: The size is optimized for common models like the 16-inch MacBook Pro, offering a secure, snug fit that prevents sliding and movement while you travel.

If you’d like to confirm the fit for your specific laptop model (including exact dimensions), just contact our support team and we’ll verify it for you.

    5. How will my Capra Leather Backpack/product age over time?

Full-grain leather develops a natural patina, meaning your product will become softer, richer in tone, and uniquely yours as the years go by. Marks from use and exposure blend into the surface, creating character without affecting durability.

Rather than wearing out, full-grain leather wears in, making your product look better and more personal with every journey.

    6. Can I customize or modify a Capra Leather product?

This is something the team is proud of—something mass production can’t offer. Capra Leather provide personalized and custom leather product options. Because every piece is made to order, the team can work with customers to create a version that truly fits their needs while maintaining the integrity of the original design. Common adjustments include:

    • Personalization: Adding initials, monograms, or specific text.
    • Minor Adjustments: Requesting different strap lengths or minor placement changes.
    • Functionality: Adding or slightly adjusting internal or external pockets (on bags or cases).
    • Small Design Modifications: Discussing slight variations to the aesthetic design of a specific model.

If you have a specific customization in mind, just contact us and we’ll let you know what’s possible, including timelines and any associated cost adjustments.

    7. What maintenance is required for a Capra full-grain leather product?

Full-grain leather requires minimal, straightforward maintenance to ensure it remains soft, durable, and develops a beautiful patina over the decades. The routine care for your Capra leather product involves three simple steps:

    • Cleaning: Gently wipe away surface dust and dirt using a soft, slightly damp cloth (never saturated). Allow the leather to air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. For spills, immediately blot the area, do not rub, and address promptly with a clean, damp cloth.
    • Conditioning: Apply a quality leather conditioner specifically designed for full-grain leather every 3 to 6 months (depending on climate and usage). Conditioning prevents dehydration, helps maintain the leather's suppleness, and prevents cracks.
    • Protection and Storage: Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat, extended exposure can cause fading and premature drying. Avoid Harsh Chemicals, never use alcohol, ammonia, or household cleaners.
    • Storage: When not in use, store your leather product in a cool, dry place, ideally in a breathable dust bag (avoid plastic, which traps moisture).

By adhering to this simple routine, you ensure the longevity and structural integrity of your Capra leather investment.

    8. Do Capra leather products come with a warranty?

Yes. Every Capra Leather product includes a lifetime warranty on craftsmanship. Because we make each piece in our own studio, we stand behind the stitching, construction, and materials used in your item.

Warranty Coverage: If your product ever needs a repair due to a craftsmanship defect or hardware failure, the team can take care of it in-house. Normal wear and tear from regular use isn’t covered, but they’re always happy to guide you on care or maintenance.

Maintenance & Restoration: For normal wear and tear over time, we also offer maintenance and restoration options to help your product age beautifully and maintain its structural integrity for decades to come.

    9. Is Capra leather water-resistant, and what if my product gets wet?

Capra leather products offer natural water resistance inherent to high-quality full-grain leather, but they are not fully waterproof. They can easily handle light rain or quick exposure to moisture. If the customer wants additional protection, they can apply specialized leather waxes or creams that enhance water resistance.

What to Do If Your Product Gets Wet:

    • Do Not Panic: A light soaking will not damage the leather structure.
    • Wipe Immediately: Use a clean, dry, soft cloth to gently blot any visible water from the surface. Do not rub the leather, as this can force water deeper or damage the surface grain.
    • Air Dry: Allow the product to air dry naturally at room temperature. Never use direct heat sources (like hair dryers, heaters, or direct sunlight), as rapid drying will stiffen, crack, or warp the leather.
    • Condition Later: Once the leather is completely dry, you may apply a quality leather conditioner to restore the natural oils.
    10. Are the straps and back panel designed for all-day comfort?

Yes. Capra products are designed to ensure superior comfort while maintaining our commitment to using only natural, high-quality materials, avoiding unnecessary synthetics.

    • Ergonomic Weight Distribution: Our straps are specifically engineered to distribute the load across your body in the most effective way, reducing strain on your shoulders and back.
    • Memory Foam Core: The straps feature an internal memory foam core. This advanced padding adapts precisely to the contours of the wearer’s body, providing a custom, comfortable fit that retains its shape and support over time.
    • Natural Back Panel: We do not use synthetic mesh liners on the back of our products. Instead, many of our designs utilize a natural suede leather lining on the back panel. This natural suede allows the product to breathe while ensuring contact is only with high-quality, non-synthetic materials.
